Lys d’Or brings an amazing Belgian-French quality and experience kitchen in a surprising & artistic context. Chef Ignace Wattenberge won the title “First Chef of Belgium” in 2018 and welcomes you for a perfect business lunch and set the right tone for a romantic dinner. Lys d’Or is located in the heart of the art quarter of Ghent. Come and discover the enormous passion for the food and the high quality products! Also Lys d’Or is a contemporary version of such a classic luxury restaurant.
The Chef

Lys d’Or is a project by Ignace Wattenberge (38), a talented chef who worked in the kitchen at Inter Scaldes in Zeeland Flanders, ‘t Molentje in Zeebrugge and Fleur de Lin in Zele. With one of the dishes on the menu here, a poached egg with oxtail and muslin, Wattenberge won the prestigious First Chef of Belgium competition in 2018. Also the chef is well surrounded in his new restaurant: Ferre Verschueren, a veteran of Castor in Beveren-Leie, is an efficient, brushed-up maitre andLisa Vanderstraeten is a fantastic sommelier.
The interior

The newly opened Lys d’Or is a typical contemporary version of such a classic luxury restaurant. The stately mansion where first the Grade restaurant was established for thirty years has been given a fantastic and complete makeover. The stately mansion has been renovated into a classy restaurant, Lys d’Or. From the curtains to the black-stained marble around the sofas, everything exudes style. And striking art and an open bar with a video wall makes the interior perfect! We loved all the details of the interior: art, marble, velvet curtains, stained glass, the unmanned grand piano, but also the beautiful tablware and cutlery.
The Food & Menu

The concept of Lys d’Or is simple: a Belgian-French à la carte kitchen with a focus on the experience. Especially lovers of the classic kitchen with a hint of innovation are served here at their beck and call. Wattenberge manages to send every dish into the room almost flawlessly. Eating here is expensive, but you get a lot of decent class instead. Also if you love a personal touch and service: this is your place to be. The chef manages to serve multiple dishes per table himself and provides you with the needed information about the dish and products.
Although we loved every single dish, for us: the absolute highlight of our dinner was the amuse with squid, the fantastic trout with cauliflower and almond sause and the steak tartare of calf. And please make sure you’ll taste the cocktail with homemade limoncello!
Menu or à la carte
Also: at Lys d’Or restaurant you are not squeezed into one of those ubiquitous menu formulas in three, four or five courses. Here you can eat à la carte. For those who really want that, there is a five-course menu and an afternoon lunch in three courses.
Would you like to taste this new restaurant concept for yourself? Book your table: we highly recommend!
